Recall News General Motors is recall- ing some of its Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra trucks due to a problem with the tailgate cables that can break when under load. About 900,000 trucks from the 1999-2000 model years are affected by the recall. Owners affected by the recall will be notified by mail and directed to QT a dealer where their \X repairs will be completed for free. In other recall news, federal regulators are investigating Chrysler minivans, SUVs and pick- ups for several possible de- fects. 2005 and 2006 models of the Dodge Caravan and Grand Caravan, as well as the Chrysler Town and Country are being investi- gated for a possible defect with the front airbag sensor, while 2004- ^ jK 2006 models of the Dodge Durango and 2005-2006 models of the Dodge Dako- ta are under investigation for a possible problem with loose bolts on the steering wheel and shaft. MM MMI MM MM MM MM MM MM NMI <§> New Seat Belt Study A new study shows that vehicle occupants have a 17 percent greater chance of being killed in a colli- sion that occurs in a state with a secondary enforce- ment seat belt law versus in a state with the stron- ger primary enforcement law. The reason, the study concludes , is that people are less likely to wear their seat belts in states with secondary enforcement laws, which are laws that require the officer to wit- ness another traffic 75- violation before they ^*/ can issue a citation for not wearing a seat belt. Cur- rently, 24 states as well as the District of Columbia have primary seat belt laws. The study, which was conducted by the National Highway Traffic Safety Ad- ministration, will likely be used to support efforts to add primary laws in other states. <$/ Audi May Offer Fewer Choices Audi may reduce the engines, features and op- tions it offers on its vehicles in the United States in an effort to provide custom- ers with combinations they want faster. The company is assessing which features are most desirable to customers and packaging those togeth- er.For example, it currently offers two sunroof options and two types of air condi- tioning systems and it may reduce those to one option for each.
