OBITUARIES Memorial service is March 25 A memorial service for Lillian K. Hofsepian, 100, of Marstons Mills, who died Feb. 24, 2006, will be at 11 a.m. March 25 at Bethany Congregational Church, 18 Spear St. in Quincy. Arlyn T. Boudreau, 76 Marstons Mills - Arlyn T. (Cayo) Boudreau,76, died March 3, 2006, at her home after a long illness with cancer. She was the wife of the late John B. Boudreau. Mrs.Boudreau wasborn inMedford and graduated from Medford High School in 1947. She graduated from Lawrence Memorial Hospital School ofNursingin Medford in 1950, and was one of the first nurse practitioners in Massachusetts in the 1970s. She worked for Boston University from 1969 to 1982 as a staff nurse, nursing supervisor and then as anurse practi- tioner in gynecology.She finished her career as an allergy nurse working for Hyannis Ear, Nose and Throat,retir- ing in 1996. She had lived in Marstons Mills since 1983. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Hyannis, vol- unteering for many years at its food pantry and at the St. Vincent DePaul Thrift Shop. She loved to travel and had visited every state in the union. Survivorsinclude three daughters, Patrice M. Smith of Gilford, N.H Lauren T.Boudreau of Marstons Mills and Denyse G. Rider of Albuquerque, N.M.; four grandchildren; one great- grandchild; and a niece and two nephews. A service washeld at the First Bap- tist Church in Hyannis, followed by burial in the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne. Memorialdonations maybe madeto the MaryMcCarthy Hospice House, 73 Service Road, Sandwich, MA 02537. Wayne R. Boufford, 58 Hyannis - Wayne R. Boufford , 58, died March 7, 2006, after a long illness. He was the husband of Deborah A. (Kusch) Boufford for 27 years. Mr.Boufford wasborn and raised in Toronto and came to the United States in 1970. He was a photographer, artist and musician, and later became a retail manager. Besides hiswife, survivorsinclude three children, Renee J. Boufford and Adrienne N. Boufford, both of Hyannis, and W.Patrick Boufford of Sandwich; a sister, Mary Hayworth of Toronto; a granddaughter; and many nieces and nephews. William Charters Burns, 85 Centerville - William Charters Burns, 85, died March 4, 2006,at Cape Cod Hospital in Hyannis after a brief illness. He was the husband of Rachel (Mercer) Burns for 63 years. Mr. Burns was born and raised in Somerville and graduated from Quincy Trade School. He served with the Navy in the European theater during World War II. He spent many years as a wood-pattern maker in the Boston area and lived in Wilmington for more than 36 years before moving to the Cape in 1982. Heloved sailingand wasanavid golf- er and a member of Olde Barnstable Fairgrounds Golf Course. He was also a member of the Friendship Lodge of Masons in Wilmington. Besides his wife, survivors include two sons. William Charters Burns Jr. of Durham, N.H and Jack Stanley Burns of Portland,Ore.; a daugh- ter, Dawne Lee Burns of Carver: a brother, Elmer Valentine Burns Jr. of Rochester, N.H.; three sisters, June A. Hirschberg of Holiday, Fla Betty Favorite of Seattle and Judith A. Paul of Quincy; and six grandchildren. Memorial services will be at a later date. Memorial donations may be made to the charity of one 's choice. James M. Campbell,49 Harwich - James M. Campbell , 49, died unexpectedly on March 2, 2006. Mr. Campbell was born in Wash- ington, DC, and lived in Glen Echo Heights, Md until movingto Welles- ley as a child. He attended Wellesley schools and was active in scouting, track,band and activities and clubs related to electronics. He graduated from Wellesley Senior High School in 1974 and attended Northeastern University. During his early career, he held managerialpositions at Radio Shack in the Boston area. In 1979, he moved to Cape Cod and joined the Mid-Cape Home Centers division of the Nickerson Cos. He worked there for 26 years in various sales and supervisory positions, including his most recent responsibilityasmanagerofreceiving at the company's South Yarmouth distribution center. While on Cape Cod he lived in Hyannis,Dennis, Chathamand,most recently, Harwich. He enjoyed working with radio communicationsas anFCC-licensed hamradio operator,and withvarious electronic and audio equipment as wellascomputers.Hisother interests included football, baseball, biking and auto mechanics. Survivorsinclude hisparents, John H. Campbellof Germantown,Va and Barbara E. Campbell of Wellesley; a sister, Margaret Hill of Wayland;two brothers,John S.Campbellof Tampa, Fla and Christopher H. Campbell of Fredericksburg, Va.; two stepsons, Eric Hersey of Falmouth and Kevin Hersey of Brewster; two nieces; and four nephews. Fleming, 82 Centerville - Louise N. Fleming, 82, died March 7, 2006, at Cape Cod Hospital in Hyannis after a brief illness. She was the wife of Russell S. , Fleming. Mrs.Flemingwasborn and raised in Watertown and graduated from Watertown High School in 1941. She was a former worthy adviser of the Watertown Association of the Rainbow and an active member of South Congregational Church. She enjoyed gardening and was a talented painter. Besides her husband, survivors include two children, Susan Dowler of Bangor, Maine,and Russell Fleming Jr. of Winchester; a sister, Doris Perry of Centerville; five grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was also the mother of the late Cynthia L. Fleming. A funeral was held at South Con- gregational Church in Centerville, followed by burial in Beechwood Cemetery there. Esther Shirley Blair Flynn, 77 Hyannis - Esther Shirley Blair Flynn, 77, died March 9, 2006, at her home after a brief illness. She was the wife of the late Martin J. Flynn Jr former selectman for the town of Barnstable. Mrs. Flynn was born in Hartford, Conn and raised in East Hampton, Conn where she attended high school. As ayoung woman she won several beauty contests,includingMiss New England, and was awarded a schol- arship to a modeling school in New York City. She was featured in many magazines including Look and Life. After returning to Connecticut, she was a diskjockeyand radio personal- ity at a local radio station under the radio moniker of Tory Flynn. She and her husband were married in March 1947,after he returned from service in the Navy during World War II. The family moved to the Washing- ton. D.C area when Mr. Flynn took a job with the CIA. They were then stationed overseas on the eastern Mediterranean island of Cyprus for three years. In May 1977,they moved to Hyannis after living in the D.C. area for many years Mr? Flynn loved art, and she began her artistic career while living on Cyprus in the 1950s. As an advocate of the artists on Cape Cod, she was a driving force behind the establish- ment of the Guyer Barn in Hyannis. She also served as a member of the Barnstable/Mid-Cap e Cultural Council and was past-president of the Hyannis Civic Association. She enjoyed her long-standing membership in the Hyannis Yacht Club. She was also very active in and worked tirelessly for the Republican Party, serving as president of the Women's Republican Club. She was a member of The Feder- ated Church of Hyannisand of asocial group associated with the church called The Ladies of the Night. She was known as The Cat Lady and The Hat Lady. Survivors include three sons, Mi- i chael Flynn of Provo, Utah, Marty "Buddy"Flynnof Marstons Millsand Blair Flynn of Burke, Va.; 21 grand- children; 12great-grandchildren;and many nieces and nephews. She was the mother of the late Darby Flynn. A funeral was held at The Feder- ated Church of Hyannis, followed by burial in Beechwood Cemetery in Centerville. George Gonsalves, 78 Waquoit - George Gonsalves, 78, died March 10, 2006, at Falmouth Hospital after an illness. He wasthe husband of BlancheY (Morris) Gonsalves for 54 years. Born and raised in New Bedford, : he served in the Army from 1946- 1947. He lived in Falmouth for 54 years and for 45 years was plant operator for Cape Cod Aggregate inHyannis, until he retired in 1998. Mr. Gonsalves also owned Gon- salvesAuto Salvage in Waquoit and was well known for his Commercial Farm Plowing from 1954 until his death. Besideshiswife, survivorsinclude two daughters,Karen Hinds of East Falmouth and Vicki Donovan of Belmont, N.H.; one son, Timothy Gonsalves of Waquoit; one brother, William Gonsalves of New Bedford; two sisters,Anna Hickerson of New Bedford and Marie Reine of East Falmouth; rive grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. A funeral Mass was celebrated in St. Anthony's Church in East Falmouth. Burial followed in St. Anthony's Cemetery. Memorialdonationsmaybe made to the American Diabetes Associa- tion, 330 Congress St Boston, MA 02210. Elba Kelly, 81 Cummaquid - Elba Kelly,81, died March 7, 2006, at her home after a brief illness. Miss Kelly was born in North Greece, N.Y, and graduated from Hilton High School in 1942. In 1946, she moved with her parents to Cummaquid, where she worked with them on the Kelly Farm. After the deaths of her parents, she and her sister continued to work the farm. She was a member of Bahai Faith. Survivors include a sister, Jean Iverson of Cummaquid;two nieces; and three grand-nieces. A graveside service was held in Mosswood Cemetery in Cotuit. (Marini) Kelly, 64, died March 7, 2006, at Windsor SkilledNursing&Rehabili- tation Center in South Yarmouth. She was the wife of Kenneth M. Kelly. Mrs. Kelly was born in Quincy, where she was a longtime resident untilretiringto Barnstable last year. She graduated magna cum laude from Bridgewater State College. She was alibrarian for the Thom- as Crane Public Library in Quincy for more than 25 years. She enjoyed antiquing, art and visitingmuseums.An avid gardener, she was a member of the Wollaston Garden Club. Besides her husband, survivors include two children, Lee K. Kelly and Marina A. Kelly,both of Quincy; and a brother, Paul F. Marini of Falmouth. A funeral Mass was celebrated at Our Lady of Hope Church in Barnstable,followed by burial in Cummaquid Cemetery. She was the wife of the late Stan- ley C. Kershaw. A native of Barrington, R.I Mrs. Kershaw, also known as"May May," spent 30 years in Centerville. For many years, she and her hus- band also wintered in Naples, Fla. Mrs. Kershaw wasan active mem- ber of the West Parish Congrega- tional Church in West Barnstable. She loved the back roads and beaches of Cape Cod and was an avid gardener and golfer. Mostly, she loved being with her family and friends. Survivors include a daughter, Susan W Brostoff of Woodstock, Ga; a son, Robert W. Kershaw of Centerville; a sister, Betty Dryer of Alpharatta, Ga.; a brother, Rob- ert Clark of Martinsville, Va.; four grandchildren;three grandchildren; and 11nieces and nephews. Klun, 79 Centerville - Statia M. (Nodolny) Klun,79,diedMarch 9,2006,at Bourne Manor in Bourne. She was the wife of Michael John Klun, who died in 1989. Mrs. Klun was born, raised and educated in Clinton. During the mid-1950s, she attended Fitchburg Teaching College for two years. She attended St. Mary's Catholic Church in Clinton,where shewasthe organist and soloist. She helped establish and operate Klun'sBootery of Clinton before mov- ing to Hyannis in 1963. Soon after moving to the Cape, Mrs. Klun helped to expand the fam- ily business to Hyannis, opening two 1 stores, most notably Klun's Bootery on Main Street, where she was the co-owner and bookkeeper. Shewasadevoted memberand con- tributor of St.Francis Xavier Church , in Hyannisfor more than 40years. She also loved to travel, touring Europe and the Caribbean. Her favorite trip ! was to Disney World in Florida. She wasan avid doll collector,loved music and was a member of the Red Hat Club. She especially loved her family'sannualgiantfireworksdisplay .' on Wequaquet Lake every Fourth of July, which she attended 17 years in j a row. Survivors include four sons, John Adam Klun of Lake Dallas, Texas, DonaldThomas Klun Sr,and Michael T.Klun,both ofCentervilleandRobert EdwardKlun ofHyannis;sevengrand- children;sixgreat-grandchildren;and many nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated at St. Francis Xavier Church inHyannis. Burial followed in Mosswood Cemetery in Cotuit. Klein Lihou, 87 Centerville -Irene W.KleinLihou, 87, formerly of New Marlborough , died March 6,2006, at Cape Regency Rehabilitation &Nursing Center in Centerville. She wasthe wife of Clifford Lihou Sr who died in 1984. They were married for 37 years. Mrs. Lihou was born in Yonkers, I N.Y. She graduated from Gorton High School in Yonkers and com- pleted ayear of post-graduatework as an art major at the school. ShelivedinMillRiver from 1947to 1966 and then moved to Centerville. She was a secretary at Barnstable VocationalSchool and untilrecently did secretarial work for her family at Clifford Lihou & Son Cabinet Mak- ers of Centerville. She previously was a cook and secretary at New Marlborough Central School. She was a member of the United Church of New Marlborough in Southfield for many years. She loved nature, especially gardening and birds, and also enjoyed art and silk screening. Survivors include a son, Clifford Lihou Jr.of Centerville;a daughter, Jane Rossignol of West Barnstable; abrother, Henry Klein of Mill River; two grandchildren; and a niece. A graveside service will be held in the spring. Locke, 90 Lexington - Mary J. Locke, 90, formerly of Hyannis, died March 6, 2006, after a brief illness. She was born in Arlington, gradu- ated from Arlington High School and earned adegree in physicsfrom Boston Teachers College. She lived in Washington, D.C,for most ofher adultlife. Sheworked for AmericanAirlines,the NationalSci- ence Foundation and Georgetown University, as well as the American Embassy in London. After retiring, she returned to Massachusetts to be near her fam- ily,livingin Hyannis for many years and later in Brookline. Survivorsinclude three nephews, Kenneth Baker of Hanover, N.H Paul Baker of Acton and Roger 1 Sands of Lebanon, Pa.; and five grandnieces and nephews. Robert F. Lynch, 79 West Hyannisport - Robert F. Lynch, 79, died March 4, 2006, at his home. Mr. Lynch was born in Boston and graduated from Boston English High School. He served in the Army during World War II. He was a police officer for the town of Barnstable from 1950 to 1985. For more than 20 years,Mr.Lynch was a hockey referee for amateur and high school games. He was also a member of Hyannis Lodge of Elks and VFW in Hyannis. Survivors include a son, Robert E. Mallardo, 85, died March 9, 2006, at Emerson Hospital after a brief illness. She was the wife of Modestino J. Mallardo, who died in 1985. Mrs. Mallardo was born in Bos- ton and lived in Medford. She was a Chelmsford resident for the last four years. Survivors include five children, Amelia Dwyer of Yarmouth, Ralph Mallardo of Dracut,Frank Mal- lardo of Groton, Robert Mallardo of Chelmsford and Joann Fierimonte of Sudbury; and 10 grandchildren. A funeral Mass was celebrated at Immaculate Conception Church in Maiden. Burial followed in Oak Grove Cemetery in Medford. Eleanor Murphy Hyannis - Eleanor Murphy died March 7, 2006, at her home. Born and raised in Norwood,she graduated from Boston College School of Nursing, where she was a charter member of the Alpha Chi chapter of SigmaTheta Tau. She also earned a master's degree in educa- tion,with amajor in counseling, and a doctorate in education. She worked for 45 years in nurs- ing, including as a faculty member at the University of New Hampshire and Boston College, director of New England Baptist Hospital School of Nursing, chairwoman of the nursing department at Assumption College, director of nursing at Hospice of the Good Shepherd in Newton and hospice program manager at CVNA of Attleboro. She was active in the National League for Nursing and the Hospice and Palliative Care Federa- tion of Massachusetts. Ms. Murphy initiated a lay spiri- tual community, the Disciples of Christian Hope. After retiring to the Cape in 2001,she helped established a ministry to the bereaved at Our Lady of Victory Church. Survivors include a sister, Mary Alice Kelley; a brother, Edmund F. Murphy; 13nieces and nephews; and 27 grandnieces and nephews. A Mass of Resurrection was cele- brated at Our Lady ofVictory Church in Centerville, followed by burial in Highland Cemetery in Norwood. Thomas L. Wiles III, 58 Hyannis - Thomas Linwood Wiles III, 58, died March 3, 2006, after a long illness. ' . Originally from Cohasset,he served in the Navy and then moved to Cape Cod, where he lived and worked for more than 30 years. He was the former owner of TLC Car Wash in West Yarmouth and of the Yankee Painting Company. He was a professional bowler, en- joyed sailingand intellectualdiscus- sions, and was an avid Yankee fan. Survivors include two nephews and a niece. A memorial service was held at ; the Quaker Meetinghouse in South Yarmouth. Burial was in the Mas- sachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne.
