in the spelling bee sponsored by
the student council Tuesday during
High School assembly. Prizes of $2
and $1 were won by Joanne Mac-
Donald and Josefa Kilbourn. Five

pate in the contest to be held
over Radio Station WOCB , begin-
ning on Saturday, sponsored by the
I Suburban Gas Company.

the Chatham Post on Friday night
at Legion Hall. According to a re-
cent bulletin the Post plans to hold
a Past Commander's Night soon.
A check of records shows that with
the exception of Commander-elect
Henry Calkins, who died shortly
before his Installation, all past com-
manders are living. It is hoped that
all will be present on "Past Com-
manders' Night" so that a picture
can be taken to be hung on the
wall. At a recent meeting of the
post it 'was voted to erect a flag-
pole in memory of the late David
R. Eldredge. World War 1 veteran.

son followed the monthly business ]
meeting ot the Methodist Adult
Society on Monday night, it was
voted to donate the sum ot $2 to
the Red Cross drive. The renovation
of the church vestry, a project of
the society , was discussed, and it
was announced that a silver tea
will be held on March 17 at the
home of Mr. and Mrs. Le Roy An-
derson, with Mrs. J. Clinton Har-
mon*/ serving as co-hostess. Pro-
ceeds will benefit the society 's re-
pnlr pledge.

sponsored by the Association of
the Sacred Heart, on Monday night

the annual meeting and dinner of
the Oape Cod Chamber of Com-
merce by the speaker, Prof . A. W.
Bolcourt, assistant horticulturist in
the extension service, University
of Massachusetts.
The meeting was held last
Thursday night in Baldwin Hall,
Hyannis, under the sponsorship of
the Chamber's Regional Planning
Committee, of which Mrs. Hollls
Lovell of Falmouth Is the chair-
man.
Prof . Bolcourt showed front
lawn arrangements by moans of a
tlannel chart. He said thut visitors
to the Cape expect and deBlre to
see Informal gardens in true Cape
Cod style and that it Is important
that we pay attention to those ap-
pearances and not allow commer-
cial signs lo dominate the land-
scape. He suggested annual con-
tests to encourage beuutiflcntion of
home grounds.
In chnrge ot this work in our
local extension service is Oscar
Johnson , assistant agricultural
agent, who spoke also about the
government help In the way of
guidance and advice that is avail-
able to all who wish it.

munity Concert Association series
was given a week ago In the Hyan-
nis Theatre before an enthusiastic

Bus Driver Honored
Mr. Harold Hallett , who bus beer
a IJUB driver for the Yarmouth
High School and John Slmpkim
School for six years, was honored
on his birthday last Thursday,
March 10th , by hlB younger school
children,
He was presented with a leathei
key case and a tie clip, both bear
ing his Initials , hy one of his little
charges.
As a bus driver, Mr. Hallett hae
harbored them through storms, de
llvered them to their doors on bad
days, anil acted as policeman, fa
ther and first aid man when nee

day, March 15 , at tlie age ol' S7.
Daughter of William Davis and
Sarah C, (Nightingale) Holmes,
Bhe was horn in Barnstable and
was a lifelon g resident there.
Surviving her ure a brother and
sister , James W. Holmes and Mrs,
B. H- Hewlns , both of Barnstable ;
also several nieces und nephews.
