<§>20 New Models For VW
Volkswagenhas big plans for the next few years. The company
recently announced that it will launch 20 new models over the
next five years and that 10 of the vehicles will be completely
new models. Among the new vehicle possibilities is a version
of the Concept A (shown here), which Volkswagen has recently
unveiled. The Concept A is a cross between an SUV and a coupe
with a long hood. The concept's doors open facing each other.
The Concept A will go through several design iterations before
Volkswagenarrives at a production version, but the final product
is likely to be priced between $20,000 and $30,000. It will compete
against the BMW X3 and the Toyota RAV-4. Volkswagen says
that the new vehicle will arrive in 2008.

Chrysler Pacifica Investigated The federal government has launched an investiga- tion on the Chrysler Pacifica. The National Highway Traf- fic Safety Administration is assessing complaints that the fuel tanks of these ve- hicles have been punctured by road debris. There are about 130 reports of fuel tank punc- tures.Aspart ofthe investigation, the federal agency will assess the reports and determine if the Pacifica has a defect. If a de- fect is found, it will require Chrysler to issue a recall to repair all the affected vehicles. About 217 ,000 Chrysler Pacificas from the 2004 and 2005 model years could be affected. If arecall is issued, owners of affected vehicles will be no- tified by mail and directed to a dealer where the repairs will be completed for free. MM MM MM MM MM MM <$>Kia Adds Minivan Kia will add a smallminivantoits lineup. The vehicle willbe based onthe Multi-S concept it unveiled recently at the Chicago Auto Show. The Multi-S concept seats seven, but is smaller than the Sedona minivan. It is powered by a 2.4-liter, four-cyl- inder engine --7^ and feature <^. two full-length glass moon roofs that given an open-air feeling across three rows of seating. Safety features in- clude six airbags, electronic stability control, adaptive front headlights and a tire pressuremonitoringsystem. Details of the production ve- hicle have not been released yet, nor has an on-sale date. The Saab Aero X is a two- seater with a carbon-fiber body.Powered bya400horse- power, twin-turbocharged V-6,theAeroXisdesignedto run on pure^ethanol. Among the vehiclesunusualfeatures are aninstrument panel that does not use gauges but in- stead displays the pertinent information using three- dimensional graphics. The Saab Aero X was unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show. It will be on display at the New York Auto Show in April.
