Council's CPA workshop next week
With snowcancelinglastweek'scouncilmeeting,the planned
discussion on the community preservation act was moved
ahead to next week's meeting, along with everything else on
the agenda.
The CPA is the surtax program that replaced the Cape
Cod Land Bank, opening up spending for historic preserva-
tion and housing, along with open space. The law requires a
minimum of 10 percent of the collected funds to be spent on
each of the three areas, but leaves open what happens with
the remaining 70 percent.
The Community Preservation Committee was appointed
last year and has been receiving requests for funding. Just
how the committee will filter through those requests will be
a primary topic of discussion, as will coordination with the
council on projects.
Also moved ahead from the canceled meeting were the
presentation of a recently awarded $75,000 county Economic
Development Council grant, acceptance of a $30,000 John
& Abigail Adams grant from the Massachusetts Cultural
Council, and an appropriation request from the solid waste
reserve account to continue the seven-day opening of the
transfer station.
