Adding a Language
"As notes on a staff are the language of music , so are mathematical
equations the language of space." Or so says Fielding Brown, whose
show, "Math Is the Language of Space ," opens this weekend at the Cape
Cod Museum of Art. Brown's sculptures originate as a set of mathemati-
cal equations, plotted and displayed on his computer. From the many
possible patterns , he chooses those are then transformed into real struc-
tures in 3-D space, such as this one, "Double Helix with Exotic Surfaces ,"
made of aluminum. Brown will give a talk at the museum on how he cre-
ates his structures on April 6 at 11 a.m. The exhibit runs through May 7.
