Adventist Church
The SDA Church runs the Bay-
berryChristianSchoolfor elementary
grades. Separate Sabbath School
Bible studies are held for children

urday followed by Worship Service
at 10:50 a.m. On the first and third
Sabbaths of each month, a potluck
dinner is offered following the ser-

Church

World Day of Prayer
The World Day of Prayer will
be observed March 3 at St.
Mary's Episcopal Church on
Route 6A in Barnstable at 10
a.m. The women of South Af-
rica wrote the program, "Signs
of theTimes," and the speaker
will be Maggie Geller, a deacon
at St. Paul's Episcopal Church
in Brockton who has traveled
extensively in South Africa. All
are welcome.
Celebrate the
women!
The Fine Arts Committee
of the Barnstable Unitarian
Church on Route 6A is ob-
serving International Women's
Month with a March show
featuring the women of the
church. In addition there will
be special services on March
5 at 9 and 11 a.m. conducted
by the Women 's Spirit Group
in celebration of Louisa May
Alcott. Art in the show will
reflect Alcott's love for the
natural world. Reception fol-
lows the 9 a.m. service.
Meditation offered
for beginners
The Cape Sangha, a Zen
Buddhist meditation group,
meets Sundays from 4:30 to
6 p.m. at the Old Schoolhouse
on Route 6A in Barnstable
Village. All are welcome, and
basic instruction in meditation
is offered to beginners.
Zen Center
presents weekly
meditation
The Cape Cod Zen Center
has weekly meditation prac-
tice at the Unitarian Church of
Barnstable, Barnstable Village
on Route 6A. The Tuesday
morning group meets at 8
for meditation in the RE area
downstairs. There is medita-
tion instruction on Fridays at
6:40 p.m. in the library and a
Friday Evening Group meets in
the library, behind the sanctu-
ary, at 7 p.m. for meditation.

O'Malley is named
cardinal
Boston Archbishop Sean
O'Malley, who served as bish-
op of the Diocese of Fall River
that includes Cape Cod, has
been appointed a cardinal by
Pope Benedict XVI.
"For ten years, from 1992
to 2002, Cardinal-designate
O'Malley led our local church,
and over that time we experi-
enced firsthand his qualities
of holiness, intelligence, and
humility," Fall River Bishop
George W. Coleman stated
in a press release. "Now as
a cardinal and advisor to the
Pope, (he) will share these
same gifts with the universal
Church."
