CONTINUED FROM PAGE B:1 nature of the petition goes against the core of what it means to be American. .Let there be NO MISTAKE: the higher prop- erty values and taxesthe residential taxpayer is experiencing today are the direct result of our own actions. We are the ones who implemented one-acre and two-acre zoning, We are the ones who implemented the Land Bank now known as the CPA. We are the ones who implemented the Cape Cod Commission One of the desired resultsof the Land Bank was that it would increase property values. With the implementation of the CCC we have not created a friendly environment to do business in. That is reflected in the property values of our business community. Barnstable has planted the seedsfor the tax shift that has occurred , We do not like what the crop has brought forth,Barnstable isnow being asked to plant more seeds of discord. I can be asked, but I will not bring upon our community something as destructive as this. I leave you with this, One of Barnstable's greatest sons and great American James Otis said. "Taxation without representation is tyranny." I still remember the 64 words of my oath of office. I believe as Town Councilors we try to do what is right. We try to be in-tune withthe voter, to keep government responsive, and to do the best we can.
