Dinner Theatre to Raise Funds for West Barnstable Firefighters Association By Kathleen Manwaring kmanwaring@barnstablepatriot.com The old west is coming to town! Well, it's coming to the Elks Club on Bearse's Way, anyway, and is bringing with it murder, mayhem and a rollicking good way to help raise money for a great cause. On Saturday evening the West Barnstable Firefighters Relief Association, in cooperation with Brickroad Productions and the Hyannis Elks, will present a murder mystery dinner show fundraiser to raise money for the Firefighters Relief Association. Chris Greim, president of the association, came upon the idea for a murder mystery show after participating in a similar event on a recent cruise. "Our primary fundraiser is sell- ing Christmas trees. We haven't done any major fundraisers lately and I was lucky to find this group on the Internet ," Greim said. The West Barnstable Fire- fighters Association is made up of past and present West Barnstable firefighters and is a means of financial assistance in time of need. "If something was to happen, God forbid , to one of our boys or girls and their medical bills became astronomical, this fund can help," explained Greim. "We raise money to take care of our own." Because the West Barnstable department is run by both full- time and on-call firefighters , such a fund can be an important asset, particularly for those who may need its assistance. Also included in the evening will be a three-course pasta din- ner with dessert made by the department's finest. The show, Murder on the Trail , will be performed by Brickroad Productions of Chicopee and promises the audience a won- derful time. Set in the Old West the show features a spirited cast who will work with the audience to determine who murdered So- phie Tyler's ex-husband. Greim is looking forward to a full house and a fun evening. "This is a win-win situation. There is absolutely no way we can lose money on this," he said. "We would love to see as many people there to have a good time and support a great cause." Tickets for the event are $35 per person including dinner and the show. Hilarity is no extra charge. "We have everything from bistros to fine dining, " said Cole. "People will be able to take in some of the local artists and then have a wonderful supper and save money while doing it." The plan will have all of the art galleries staying open until 8 p.m. starting next Thursday and continuing on the first Thursday of each month. The galleries will validate your viewing and then it's off to one of 10 downtown restaurants participating. The menu is extremely varied from Brazilian , Italian . British , Indian and American a little something for everyone's taste if you will, and Cole said the Artscape Thursday's will be a year-round venture that's sure to be a big hit. "There are so many different galleries and so many different restaurants I think the locals will want to do this over and over again," said the business director. "Hyannis is truly on the verge of a renaissance. It is really becoming a cultural center. The construction on Main Street is done , the Walk Way to the Sea is complete , and there are many, many new stores and merchants. I think that the word on the street is very optimistic. There's a real nice energy out there," said Cole. Artscape Thursdays... CONTINUED FROM PAGE C:1 women secretly sewing their arpilleras in a church basement. Each arpillera comes to life in a combination of textures including fragments of clothing the women wore and locks of their own hair to represent the hair of their missing loved one. Ringler credits the exhibit with bringing awareness of the Chilean situation to the Cape Cod commu- nity. "In some sense [the tapes- tries] were done for the women to work through these terrible issues," says Ringler. "It brought women together in their pain. The tapestries then became something that could point graphically to the issues." The tapestries will be on display Monday through Friday in the Gal- lery from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and for the same hours during the March 4 Multicultural Festival. Marjo- rie Agosin will speak about her experiences at noon on Saturday, March 4. For more information please contact the gallery at 508-362-2131 ext. 4484. Threads...
