Fun With Energy - The PTO sponsored a show
called Fun With Energyin bothschools.The children
learned about potential energy, kinetic energy, heat
energy, and static electricity as well as the energy
produced by sound waves.

WELL-BAKED SCHEME: Thanks to all who
have either donated, or bought items from
school bake sales as we raise money for
Heifer International. Our first bake sale
raised $305.
STUDY ISLAND: Third and fourth grade
students are encouraged to continue uti-
lizing Study Island at home. It's a great
way to practice academic skills before the
administration of MCAS ELA and Reading
in late March and early April.
READ ACROSS AMERICA DAY: Thursday,
March 2nd is Read Across America Day.
Read Across America Day is a nation-wide
celebration of reading that falls on Dr.
Seuss'sbirthday. The focus for Read Across
America this year at BWB is Seuss's book
titled "Ten Apples Up on Top." Students
who would like to earn a special treat on
March 2, can complete a simple "apple
math" activity. Look for this activity to be
sent home soon!

PARENTSURVEY COMING: We are about to
launch our annual parent survey. This will
most likelycome home withthe childrenthe ;
week after February vacation. We annually
ask parents to fill out the survey and return
it back to us. We are looking for feedback
from parents about the things they think
we are doing well and what they might like
to see us do differently. We read each and
every response so please be as honest as
you can. Your feedback is valuable to us
and will definitely be used to make any j
changes needed to improve the quality of

A HEALTHY FIX: A fitness program promot-
ing more physical activity at home for chil-
dren in both the Marstons Mills and Cotuit
campuses has been provided by health and
physical education specialist Karin Schulz.
"A Healthy Fix for 2006" sets the goal for J
the students to exercise for 2006 minutes
at home before the end of the school year.
Those who succeed willhave their name on
a printed sneaker on the wall of the gym
and will be given a sneaker charm to wear
on their shoelaces.
NEW PLAYGROUND FOR MILLS: Plans are
underway for renovating and adding to the
playground at the Marstons Mills campus
by the Playground Committee, under the
direction of co-chair Karin Schulz. Fund-
ing incudes a $5,000 donation from the
Lowe's Toolbox for Education Program
and a $5,000 gift from the school's PTO.
Further donations may be made through
the "Penny Jars" in each school lobby.
CANDY BAR BINGO: The PTO will provide
a fund-raising event for families at the first
Candy Bar Bingo game of the year. Pro-
ceeds will go for enrichment programs at
both campuses. Help our school and join
in the fun on March 10th at the Marstons
Mills Cafe from 6:30 to 8:00 PM.

GENERAL ANNOUNCEMENTS: As winter
vacation winds down, we at BHMCS wish
you to keep inmind that March isthe begin-
ning of the State's Standardized Testing,
MCAS.The students in both Fifth and Sixth
grades, depending on their circumstances,
willbe taking the MELA/MELA-0 and ELA
MCAS'sduringtheup-comingweeks.Proper
rest, good nutrition and attendance are
fundamental to better achievement.
SPECIAL EVENTS: On March 7, BHMCS
willhost the first Sixth Grade Family Math
Night, from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Come join
us for an evening of fun and brain "tickling"
challenges. Then on March 9 and 10 we will
be hosting "Project Wet" for our students
on the various methods where water and
science combine for our environmental
safety.
RECOGNITION: Several members of the
BHMCS staff are again putting together
a "Team" to participate in the Relay for
Life, proceeds go to The American Cancer
Society. This is held each year at the D-Y
High School. They continue the hope; for
those we've lost and the future of a cure. If
you are interested in sponsoring this group,
contact Ms. Wendy Kingman or Ms. Deb
Morgan (Co-captains) at BHMCS.
IMPORTANTMEETING: The Board OfTrust-
ees Meetings are held on the last Thursday
of the month at 7a.m.in the BHMCS Library
and are open to the public. There will be a
number of vacancies on the Board for the
up-coming school year 2006-'07. If you feel
you can offer your insight and commit to
the continued growth of BHMCS, please
submit a current resume to: BHMCS/At-

Program will hold its major fundraiser of
the year on March 24, at the Sheraton
Four Points Resort in Hyannis. Dinner,
DJ, Dancing! Win prizes, cash or other
items that will be awarded that night!

RENAISSANCE FAIREPLANNED FOR MAY
5: We have shifted the traditional date of
our Renaissance Faire in order to avoid
conflicts with other activities that go on
in late June. This year's Faire will run
from 3:30-8:00 PM on Friday, May 5. The
Renaissance Steering Committee has been
meeting monthly throughout this year and
will begin weekly meetings on March 15,
at 2:45 PM. We need volunteers to help
with this monumental event. Please call

Greeters Needed at Entrance. One of the
School Improvement goals is to create a
school environment where parents, staff,
and students feel welcomed and valued.
We are looking for additional parents to
volunteer for weekly one-hour shifts,serving
as a "greeter" at our main entrance. As
a greeter you would welcome all visitors
and assist them in rindingthe appropriate
office in our school.

tics Team for capturing First Place in the
11Team Gymnastic Conference Champion-
ship. The girls are seeded first in the south

THE BHS JUNIOR DANCE-' THE WILD
WEST" willbe held on Friday,March 3,from
7 to 11p.m. in the Senior Cafe. Tickets are
$10 and will be sold on Monday, Feb. 27,
before school in the Main Cafe, Tuesday,
Febr. 28, before school and during lunch
in the Main Cafe, and Wednesday, March
1st, after school in the Main Lobby. Non-

Scholarships available
• Cape Cod Landscape Association Mike Stacy
Memorial Scholarship: three $1,500 awards to
Cape Cod students who will pursue a career in the
green industry, plus an award of $500 to a son or
daughter of an Association member.
• First Citizens' Federal Credit Union Barbara
Whitehead Silva Scholarship: $1,000 to a gradu-
ating high school senior. Applications available
at the bank office, 66 Falmouth Road in Hyannis.
Deadline is April 1.
• St. Peter's Episcopal Church: $1,000 each to
two Barnstable High School, Cape Cod Academy
or Sturgis Charter Public School seniors inmemory
of "Kit" Anderson. Applications due by March 25.
• Osterville Garden Club: $1,000 each to four
graduating high school seniors fromthe town who
will major in horticulture, floriculture, landscape
design, conservation, forestry, agronomy, city
planning, environmental studies, land manage-
ment or botany. Applications due by March 31.
• Nauset Garden Club: $2,000 for a resident of
Cape Cod or the Islands entering his or herjunior
or senior yearof collegeinthe 2006-07 academic
year and who is majoring in landscape design,
horticulture , environment , marine or related
sciences, or enrolled in a graduate program in
the same studies. Applications are due May 30.
