JOIN THE CAPTAIN'S CREW - The Brewster Historical Society New
Home Acquisition Committee has only until Feb. 18 to raise donations
for matching funds from the Massachusetts CulturalCouncil and the
Massachusetts Historical Commission to buy the Elijah Cobb house
for its new HQ. Committee coordinator Sally Gunning says the house
is in excellent condition and that the society has sufficient funds to
maintain the house. What's needed now are contributions to meet
the purchase price. Gunning notes that Brewster, known as the Sea
Captain's Town, "doesn't currently offer a single sea captain's home
that is accessible to the public." Her committee could probably use
the helpof Capt. Cobb, who negotiatedwiththefearsome Robespierre
during the French Revolution to free his ship from customs. Go to
www.brewsterhistoricalsociety.orgfor details.
