second year in a row. Also tak-
ing a first was our Summmcape
magazine. Striking silver were
Senior Reporter Kathleen Szmit
(feature photography - a fish-
nabbing osprey) and columnist
Paul Gauvin,with former editor
David Still II medaling for a
feature photo (a rescued turtle
at Sandy Neck)... Thanks to
Boston Globe columnist Jennifer
Graham for introducingusto the
Negro Motorist Green Book,
a compendium of African-
American owned and operated
accommodations that helped
guide travelers in the mid-20'h
century.Graham mentioned that
the 1956 edition is online at the
University of South Carolina,
and it was there that we learned
exactlyone Cape Cod venue was
listed: Zilphas Cottages Tourist
Home, at 134 Oakneck Road
in Hyannis.... Another item in
the Globe caught our eye:Cape
Verde, ancestral home to many
Cape Codders, has successfully
petitioned the United Nations
to list the archipelago as Cabo
Verde....Several Barnstable resi-
dents will be among those hon-
ored as everyday heroes at the
12th annualHeroesBreakfast of
the AmericanRed Cross, Cape
and Islands Chapter, on March
28. In the various categories
highlighting 10 lifesaving acts,
they are: Boston Strong Hero
Carrie Consalvi Of Marstons
Mills and 102d Intelligence
Wing Boston Marathon Re-
