Sri Boutique lives up to its name
By Kathy Manwaring

YES, SRI - Sri Boutique offers women's fashions that dazzle with light, luster, radiance and beauty,
as well as a bit of funky fun! The shop on Pearl Street is owned by D.D. McGarry who returned to the
Cape last year. The name,Sri, comes from the Sanskrit word "Sri" which means light, luster, radiance,
beauty, creativity and prosperity.
In
Sanskrit the word Sri (pro-
nounced shree) means light,
luster, radiance and beauty.
In the ever-changing world of
women'sfashion the Sri Boutique
in Hyannis carries the Sanskrit
meaninginto its shop, offering fun,
feminine wares that are, well, very
Sri.
Sri Boutique originally opened
in Plymouth, N.H., where owner
D.D. McGarry, formerly of Oster-
ville, enjoyed 10 years of success,
including the vote of "Best Bou-
tique Shopping Experience 2005"
by New HampshireMagazine. As
McGarry's family needs changed, a
return to the Cape became neces-
sary. McGarry brought her stylish
tastes and whimsicalshop with
her, establishing Sri Boutique on
Pearl Street in Hyannis.
"It feels great to be back,"
McGarry said, a wide, welcoming
smilebrighteningher face. "People
have been really responsive."
McGarry believes that women
find Sri Boutique a welcome
change from the staleness of de-
partment stores and mall chains.
"Women are excited to have
somewhere new to shop," she said.
What makes Sri Boutique
special is its dramatic diversity
from the clothing styles women
might expect to find on Cape Cod.
Ensconced within a cozy pink-
painted buildingset back from the
street, Sri Boutique is ajoyously
eclectic mix of funky, trendy pieces
that catch the eye and lift the
spirit. There is nothing nautical or
navy blue here.
"We are not conservative at all,"
said McGarry of the clothing, jew-
elry and shoes she carries.
Shoppers willbe delighted with
the bold array of colors, fabrics
and designs that can be found on
the neatly organized racks of Sri.
McGarry has carefully culled fash-
ion shows and such for the pretti-
est offerings that include flowing
tiered skirts, sparkling tops embel-
lished with scattered gems, and
even a breezy velvet duster.
Accessories include earrings,
bracelets, pins, and shoes. Name
droppers will appreciat e brands
such as Chinese Laundry, Mary
Frances and Lucky Jeans.
"The store changes weekly,"
McGarry said, noting that she
is always on the lookout for new
items to feature in the boutique.
While McGarry does have con-
cerns about her "off the beaten
path" location, she is confident
that the uniqueness of the store,
coupled with her top-notch ser-
vice, will not only bring in new
clientele but keep people coming
back.
"Anyone can shop on-line but
you don't get personal service,"
says McGarry.
The service at Sri Boutique
includes one-on-
one advice on
putting together
an outfit , choosing
the perfect acces-
sory or deciding
on the ultimate
Prom gown. To
make prom shop-
ping easier as the
season approaches,
McGarry plans on
consulting with
teens that visit the
boutique to discuss
with them what
type of dress they
are looking for and
only carrying two
of each style.
McGarry will
also be establish-
ing a registry of
purchased dresses
to avoid young
women wearing
identical gowns.
"I'm going to
have a promotion
called 'Dare to Daz-
zle.' Girls can come in
and describe for me
their dream dress in
order to win a $75 gift certificate ,"
McGarry said.
Because Sri Boutique didn't
open until mid-September, Mc-
Garry missed the busy summer
season. Although she is looking
forward to the increased foot
traffic a Cape summer can bring,
she is careful to point out that her
main focus is on her local clients.
That clientele is not limited to the
younger generation, as McGarry
believes her attire is for all ages.
"I have Barnstable High School
girls shop here and 78-year-old
women, too," she said. "It's for the
young and the young at heart."
Sri Boutique is located at 20 A Pearl Street,
just off Main Street. Parking is available. For
hours and information please call 508-790-
3113.
