CARTRIDGE DONATIONS: Parents and
community members are encouraged to
help to fund our Cotuit/Marstons Mills
student activities by donating used car-
tridges from printers and copy machines.
Just put them in a sealed plastic bag and
either place them in containers set up in
the lobby of either the Cotuit or Marstons
Mills school, or send them by backpack
with your children.
VACATION PLANS: Looking ahead to the
upcoming school vacation, parents could
be planning family activities that will ben-
efit their children's health and education.
Walking the canal, other local trails or the
beaches in good weather can make for fun
and fitness. Cape museums such as The
Natural Science Museum in Brewster , The
Green Brier Nature Sanctuary or Heritage
Museum in Sandwich or the Children's
Museum in Mashpee have displays that
are of interest to the whole family. A trip
to Boston could include the Museum of
Science, the Aquarium, the State House or
the Children's Museum. Reading together
from books supplied by your local library
is a great family activity. Thinking and
planning ahead can avoid the "What can
we do now?" vacation doldrums and help
to broaden your children's interests while
creating happy family experiences.
AFTER SCHOOL: The schools' PTO is again
sponsoring an after-school enrichment
program that extends through March
30. Instructors include an artist from the
Cotuit Center for the Arts, a chef from
the Mayflower Nursing Home, an expert
in medieval studies, and a classical ballet
dancer as well as volunteer teachers and
parents with special talents to share. Other
topics include science, story-telling, chess,
and various arts and crafts

GENERAL ANNOUNCEMENTS: February
is a short month in calendar days and
school days, but that does not mean that
each day we are in school isn't filled with
learning.Weurge you to have your children
ready and in school each day that we are
in session. Please do not schedule family
vacations during school time to avoid your
children missing out on new concepts and
instant feedback from their teachers during
classroom instruction. Thank you for your
cooperation.
SPECIAL EVENTS: Valentines for Soldiers:
Mrs. Pfeifer, one of our second grade teach-
ers, has a nephew who is deployed in Iraq.
She had asked him if there was anything
that the soldiers needed. He responded
that one of the biggest difficulties they
faced was not being able to talk with their
families. Therefore, our school will be put-
ting together a package to be sent to Iraq
on Feb. 13. If you would like to donate a
pre-paid phone card, please send it in to
your child's teacher. Please keep in mind
that a 100-minute domestic phone card
only provides 20 minutes of actual phone
time. Thank you for your support! We're
sure that your kindness will be very wel-
comed in Iraq.
RECOGNITION: Thankyou to everyone who
participated in the Winter Calendar Raffle,
and congratulations to all of the winners!

SURVEY COMING: We are about to launch
our annual parent survey. This will most
likely come home with the children the
week after February vacation. We annually
ask parents to fill out the survey and return
it back to us. We are looking for feedback
from parents about the things they think
we are doing well and what they might
like to see us do differently. We read each
and every response so please be as honest
as you can. Your feedback is valuable to
us and will definitely be used to make any
changes needed to improve the quality of
your child's education.
