SPECIAL NOTICES.
A MACHINIST IN THE BOSTON LOCOMO-
TIVE WORKS.
Boston . January 12 1849
Messrs. Reddikg & Co., 8 State street :
Gentlemen—It is now about 14 months since I com-
menced spitting blood y matt er, accompanied with a
disag reeable cough and pain in my side. After em-
ploying doctors of good standin g, without avail , I was
'Jyht
'Vp l°f U
7-
DR - SCHEX CK'S PULMONARY
bitKUi ., of which I took as many as half a dozen
bottl es, which I bought at your office in State street ,
and toun d n benefitted me greatl y. Two months
since , however , I caught a severe cold , and the symp-
toms above described re-appeared viith more severity,
insomuch that I was forced to give up my business al-
together. This time the doctors thoug ht" mine a very
serious case ; my friends considered me in extreme
danger, and they recommended a journey South. Hap-
pening in conversation with your book-keeper , to
mention this circumstance , he suggested to me to go
on to Philadel phia , and see Dr. Schenck , which I did ,
and was fortunate enoug h to interest the doctor in
my case. He held out hopes of speedy cure. He took
me to his house, where he gave me a number of bot-
tles of this Syrup, until a gathering appeared on my
side , which ri pened and discharged a great quantity
of matter. From that moment I gained dail y. I have
returned to Boston , whore I give to you this state-
ment convinced of the benefit , of this great medicine ,
which under God 's providence , has restored me to
health again. For Dr. Schenck's hospita lity and 011-
remittin " kind ness to me , I can perhaps make no bet-
te r return than this statement. If you publish this it
mav meet the eye of some others , who , like m e, have
suffered all but death from consumption , or di-cases in
the shape I have described , may be induced to avail
themselves of the virtue and realize the full benefit , as
I have. J. R. AMES.
We, the undersigned , are acquainted with Mr. Ames ,
and know this statement to be true , and the signature
genuine. Reuel Hough ,
Book-keeper of the Boston Locomotive Works.
Isaiah Tilston ,
Machinist at the Boston Locomotive Works.
G. J. Edwards,
Machinist at the Boston Locomotive Works.
The proprietor respectfull y offers his ori ginal Pul-
monic Syrup to the public as a cure for Coughs, Colds ,
Consumption , Dyspepsia , Liver Complaint , Palpitation
of the Heart , and Scrofula. It has been before the
public upwards of twelve years, during which time
scarcely a single individual has used it without finding
relief. It has succeeded in cases where all other reme-
dies had failed , and tho proprietor conscientiously be-
lieves , from its great success, that it is the best remed y
'or these diseases ever discovered. Having devoted the
whole of his attention , for the last sixteen years to the
treatment of Consumption , Liver Complai nt, Dyspep-
sia, and all diseases of the Lungs and Respiratory Or-
gans, he points to his great success , as a sufficient guar-
antee to the public of his skill and ability. He denies
that th e di sease is incu rabl e, and adduces the foregoing
testimony in proof of his position. His unprecedented
cures arc based solel y upon the merits of his Pulmonic
Syrup , and avoids the use of Opium and other nar-
cotics, which are on ly administered to relieve, but never
to cure the patient.

nrUIE NATIONAL PSALMIST.—A New Collec-
X tion of Church Music , by the Authors of the 'Han-
del and Hay dn Society 's Collection,' 'Boston Acade-
my 's Collection ,' 'Curinina Sacra ,' &c-
As th is is th e latest , it is also believed to be much
the best work of these popular author s Embracing a
sufficient number of the standard Old Tunes , it con-
tai ns a very largo amount ot New Music, furnished w
selected expressl y for its pages by distingu ished Euro-
pean and American Composers By a judicious typo-
L'l-inhiealarrangement , the Publishers are enabled to
present a much larger amount of matter than is usual
in similar works. It contains over five hundred tunes
in the va rious metres, and one hundred and forty-four
Anthems. Set Pieces, Chants , &c.—a much greater
number of pieces, it is believed .than is contained in any
other modern Collection. A large number of Vocal
Exercises are added, prepared with great care, with spe-
cial reference to the wants of Choirs , Schools , &c—
These will be found a very valuable addition.
The Authors possessed many advantages in the com-
pilation of this work—having been for many years in
the constant recei pt of all the best sacred music publish-
ed in Germany or England , and also having received
from distinguished European as well as American com-
posers, much original music desi gned expressly lor itt
pages. Sufficient evidence of the me-riisof the 1snip
ist' is found in the wide popularity and very extensive
sale it has alread y attained since its recent publicatio n.
These are believed to be greater than have been enjoy-
ed by any Collection of Church Music ever published
