UPCOMING MCAS ASSESSMENTS: As
you know, each spring the Mass Depart-
ment of Education requires all third and
fourth graders to take the MCAS assess-
ments. This year the three part language
arts assessments will take place between
March 27th and April 7th. The two-part
MCAS Mathematics will be administered
between May 15th and June 2nd. These
are very important test that will help
teachers to instruct your child in the
most effective manners. There are no
make up sessions for the reading com-
prehension or the math assessments so
it is very important that families do not
plan any non-emergency medical ap-
pointments or "extra" family vacations
during those periods. Please be sure to
mark those dates on your calendar.
GRADE THREE ARTIST IN RESIDENCE
PROGRAM: On Monday, January 30th,
Angela Klingler will be starting her
"Artist in Residence" session for the
third grade at Hyannis West. It will run
through Thursday February 2nd. Ms.
Klingler is a storyteller who came to our
school in November as part of our "Cul-
tural Enrichment" program. The students
enjoyed her very much. Ms. Klingler will
be going to each third grade classroom
every day, teaching the students about
the art of oral story telling, and helping
them develop their own stories. It should
prove to be a very enriching experience.
