EVENTSCALENDAR JLj?f BOOKS: See Ben's books Ten editions of Benjamin Franklin's Autobiography will be on view at Sturgis Library on Route 6A in Barnstable village through February. The exhibit marks the tercentennary of the birth of Franklin, whose unfin- ished book went through a variety of posthumous changes. The collection, which was featured in Antiques Road- show Insider, is owned by Renee and Mark Roberts, proprietors of Roses Books and the Clock and Rose Press in Harwich Port. Book sales in Osterville The Osterville Free Library, 43 Wi- anno Avenue, holds a book sale Jan. 21 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. then again on Jan. 25 from 9 a.m. to noon. WB story hour Thursday mornings Ages 3 to 5 are invited to attend story hour at Whelden Library in West Barnstable Thursday mornings from 10 to 11. Books wanted The GoodStart Program is look- ing for new and gently used books for distribution to the children of the community. Marstons Mills story hours and more The Marstons Mills Public Library invites children of all ages to weekly story hours on Tuesdays at 10 a.m. Also on Tuesdays, at 4:15 p.m., there is a story hour for children in preschool through grade 2, crafts included. Grades 4 through 7 are invited to play board games from 4 to 6 p.m. Storytimes and more at Eastham Public Library The Eastham Public Library has weekly storytime every Friday at 10:30 a.m. for children up to age 5. A craft session follows. The library also hosts a monthly "Magic The Gather- ing" trading card game program for ages 11 and up the first Tuesday of each month from 6:15 to 7:45 p.m. CANVAS M CANVAS: Barnstable What's up at the Ca- rtoon? The Cahoon Museum of American Art, 4676 Route 28 in Cotuit, offers docent tours every Friday at 11 a.m. Classes include Sailor 's Valentine, folk painting, watercolor, bird carv- ing and more. On Feb. 3 from 5 to 7 p.m., there'll be an opening reception (complete with alphabet soup) for "The World of Words," new works by 51 contemporary artists celebrating the love of reading. The show will be up through March 19. All works are for sale, with the Cape Cod Literacy Council receiving 25 percent of the proceeds. Call 508-428-7581. Cape Cod Art Association The Cape Cod Art Association, 3480 Route 6A in Barnstable, is offer- ing courses in watercolor painting, oil painting, life drawing, digital photog- raphy and more. The Association is accepting student members ages 14 to 22 with a membership fee of $15 a year, which includes discounts on classes, newsletter subscription and ability to exhibit and sell work. Open studios held in Mashpee Thursday and Friday mornings from 10 a.m. to noon, through spring, the Art For Giving gallery, 27 Fountain St. in Mashpee Commons, will hold open studio time after which there will be a gentle critique. New at Cape Cod Mu- seum of Art Fall classes and workshops for kids include comic book design, drawing, fun with clay, ocean art, watercolor, monster making, art club and more at the Cape Cod Museum of Art in Dennis. Adult studio classes include white line printmaking, 3-D assemblage, stained glass, compo- sition and color harmony painting, basic drawing, enameling, more. Paul Schulenburg and John Grillo exhibit through Feb. 26 in celebration of the museum's 25th anniversary. Roberta Hurlburt exhibits assemblages of found art through March 19.
