SGas Prices Up Again Gas prices are on the rise again. The Lundberg Survey reports that prices are up nearly nine,cents over the last three weeks. The national average for a gallon of self-serve regular unleaded was $2.30, ac- cording to the survey. The highest prices were report- ed in Honolulu at $2.59 per gallon of regular unleaded, while the lowest were logged in Sat Lake City at $2.05 per gallon. Analyst Trilby Lundberg predicted that prices would continue to climb, even though the U.S.typically consumes the least amount of fuel in January. It is priced at $33,990 about $2,000 less than its prede- cessor. General Motors has dropped the sticker prices on the majority of ~/j r its vehicles. The ^& company made the pricing changes this week in an ef- fort to reduce the number of incentives it offers on its vehicles. Prices on some vehicles have been low- ered by as much as $2,500. Prices were affected by at least some of the vehicles within the Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet, GMC, Pontiac and Saturn brands. Prices were not changed on any Hummer or Saab vehicles, which are both owned by GM. fH Fuel Economy RatingsMay Change If you've noticed that your car doesn't get the gas mileage shown on the window sticker, you are not alone. The EPA has pro- posed new fuel economy tests that would more accurately reflect today's typical driving conditions and would therefore more closely mirror motorists actual results. The new standards are expected to cause fuel economy es- timates to drop by 10 to 20 percent for city ^_ ratings and 5 to 15 four, and the two rear seats slide independently on rails allowing a child's safety seat to be installed in the center behind the rear seats. The concept car also features a built-in espresso machine, complete with a water reservoir and four cups, so the vehicle's oc- cupants may have coffee whenever they wish. The Audi Roadjet is powered by a 300 horsepower 3.2-liter engine mated to a seven- speed direct shift gearbox. MM mm ma mm «m mm nm MM mm W>What's That Smell? Breathing the air in your car may be bad for your health. A study by the Ecology Center, an envi- ronmental group, found that vehi- cle interiors have high levels of tox- ic chemicals that can be dangerous to occupant's health. The group studied samples of dust and wind- shield film of ve- hicles that were from the 2000 model year and newer and found excessive levels of flame retar- dants and plastic softeners ^ that have <^> been linked to a variety of health issues. The group recommended drivers pro- tect themselves and their occupants by keeping their vehicles well ventilated and vacuuming them regularly. ' 9.BMW Shows Z4 and M Roadster BMW has updated its Z4 Roadster and has intro- duced a high-performance version, the M Roadster. The 2006 Z4 will come with a choice of two new inline six-cylinder engines, six- speed manual transmis- sions and new Dynamic Stability Control. The new M Roadster will be pow- ered by a 3.2-liter inline six-cylinder engine and a six-speed manual transmis- sion. Starting prices will be $36,295 for the Z4 and $51,995 for the M Roadster. Executives from the company confirmed that it willadd amodelto itslineup within the next three years.The new car willbe alarger vehicle than the current Mini and will be based on the Mini Traveller concept the company recently unveiled. The Mini Traveller has alonger wheelbase, sliding rear windows and split rear doors. The inspiration for the concept was the vehicle of the same name that went on sale in 1960.
