Read the remarkabl e case of JOHN DAVIS, Sexton of Rev.Edward T. Tay lor's Church, Boston. I, the undersigned , Sexton of the Church of that good Wan, Father Ta y lor, state the following facts, which 1 "link should be told a world. 1was born in Portugal , Wil am now forty years of age. My parents were healthy; and I was not afflicted by any disease until the year 1845. I was then residing in Boston. At that "me my skin became subject to a humor, which at last Was so bad as to alarm myself and friends. * Severe sores aMl abscesses developed themselves ; large scars are nov " deep ly imprinted on my forehead and other P ts ^ of my bod y, and by their excorication indented even into the bone. About twelve months since my af- O'cttons seemed increasing. Deep seated sores ol the °ulest character , came out on my arms, my head , and *ven attacked my eyes. A MACHINIST IN THE BOSTON LOCOMO- TIVE WORKS. , , Boston, Janua rv 12, 1849. Messrs. Redding & Co, 8 State street': OrenUemen—It is now about 14 months since I com- menced spittin g bloody matter , accompanied. with a disagreeable cough and pain in my side. After em- ploy ing doctors of sjood standing , w'lthout avail , I was induced to trv DR. SCHENCK'S PULMONAKi SYRUP , of w hich I took as many as half a dozen bottles , which 1 bought at your office in State street , and found it bcncfiTtcd me greatl y. Two months since , how ever, I cauuhta severe cold , and the symp- toms above de^cri ed' re- uppcarcd with more severity, insomuch that I was forced to give up my business al- together. This time the doctors thoug ht mine a very serious case ; mv friends considered me in extreme danger , and they recommended a jour ney South. Hap- pe nrri"- in conversat ion with your book-keeper , to mention this circum siance , he suggested to me to go on to Philadel phia , and sec Dr. Schcnck , which 1did. and was fortunate enoug h to in ter est th e d octo r in my case. He held out hopes of speed y cure. He took me to bis house , where he gave me a number of bot- tles of this Syrup, until a gathering appeared on my side , which ri pened and discharged a great quantity of matter. From that moment I gained dail y. 1have returned to Bosto n, where I f;iv e to you tins state- ment , convinced of the benefit of this great medicine , which und er God's providence , has restored me to health again. For*Dr. Schenck's hosp itality and un- remitting kindness to me, I can perhaps make no bet- ter return than this statement. If you publish this it may meet the eye of some others , who , like me , ha ve suffered all but death from consumption , or di-cases in the shap e I have described , may be induced to avail themselves of the virtue and realize the full benefit, as I have. J. R. AMES. We , the undersi gned , are acquainted with r. Ame^ and know this statement to be true, and the si gnature genuine. Keoj si. Hough , Book-keeper of the Boston Lo> omotive \\ oiks. Isaiah Tii.ston , Machinist at the Boston Locomotive Works. G. J. Kdwakds , Machinist at the Boston Locomotive Works. The proprietor respectfull y oll'ers his ori ginal Pul- monic Syrup to the public as a cure for Coughs, Colds , Consumption , Dyspepsia , Liver Comp lai nt, Pal pitatio n of the Heart , and Scrofula. It has been before the public upwards of twelve years, during which time scarcely a single individual has used it without rinding relief. It has succeeded in cases where all other reme- di es bad failed , and the proprietor conscientiously be- lieves , from its great success, that it is th e best remed y for these diseases ever discovered. Having devoted the whole of his attention , fir the last sixteen years to the treatment of Consumption , Liver Complaint , Dyspep- sia, and all diseases of the Lungs and Re spirator y Or- gans , he poi n ts to his gr eat success , as a sufficient guar- ant ee to the public of his skill and ability. He denies that tlie disease is incurable , and adduces the foregoing testimony in proof of his position. His unprecedented cures are based solel y niton the merits of his Pulmonic Syrup , and avoids the use of Op ium and other nar- cotics , which are onl y administered to relieve , but never to cure the patient. Price—$1 per bottle , or 6 bottles for $5. Sold whole- sale and retail by REDDING & CO., Booksellers, No. 8 State-stkekt, Boston, General Agents for New Eng land. Also sold by O. M. Hinckley. The ways of Providence are indeed oft limes mysterious to us. The deceased had been making ex- tensive improvements in his tavern stand , which he had occup ied for t en yea rs, for the better and more commodious entertainment of his large and increasing circle of patrons , a nd seemed to be in a fair way of liv- ing many years to enjoy these improvements. But ere be hud fairl y comp leted them he was summoned sudden- ly nwav to occupy a building of God. a house not made with ha nds, eternal and in the Heavens ! He was ioo extensivel y known to require a labored notice. We tru-t his virtues will be fondl y cherished—his faults , for who has them not? may be covered with the mantle of charity. And may his widowed and lonel y companion be sustained with the divine assurance tliat all is well. Ami his children also , with all dear friends be comfort- ed with those blessed truths which speak peace to the sorrowing soul. 8- E- In Farmington. Me., Nov. 20th , Dr. Thos. Dawks Blake. 81. He was born in Boston , from whence he removed , with hi-; father's famil y, in consequence of the British cruelties during the siege of that place, to Wor- cester. Dr. B. studied his profession with Dr. Joseph Goldthwaite , of Petersha m. Mass., with whom he for a short li me settled. He moved to Farmin<>ton. Me., in 1799. where he resided half a century, eminentl y suc- cessful in the profession , and greatl y endeared , through life , for his uprig htness and humanity, to all who knew him. Obituary.
