IEarl F. Bardsley Sr., 87 ; Marstons Mills - Earl F.Bardsley , Sr., 87, died Dec. 30, 2005, at his Daughter's home in Winchendon. He was the husband of the late Eva (Tucker) Bardsley. ! Mr. Bardsley was born in Nova Scotia. A former resident of Arling- ton, he had lived on Cape Cod for the past 20 years. t He served in the ArmyAir Forces 'during World War II from 1943-45 and was enlisted in the Naval Re- serve until 1955. Mr. Bardsley was an engineer for Johnson & Johnson Co. until his retirement. He had previously worked for MIT/Draper Laborato- ries on aerospace programs. \ Survivors include his children, Joy F. Davis of Winchendon and Earl F. Bardsley of Newton; and two grandchildren. A funeral was held at John-Law- rence Funeral Home in Marstons Mills. Burial was in Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne. Althea E. Duffin, 91 Marstons Mills - Althea E. Duffin, 91, died Jan. 3, 2006, at Harborside Healthcare. She was the wife of William E. Duffin, who died in 1998. They were married in 1965. She was also the wife of James M. Lee, who died in 1961. Mrs. Duffin was born in West Medford and graduated from high school in Cambridge. She lost her mother at a young age and spent her youth and post-high school years taking care of her younger brothers. After marrying, she and Mr. Lee moved to Waterbury, Conn. She worked as a receptionist in his dental office until his death. She also worked in the bookkeeping department of Waterbury Na- tional Bank. In 1968 she returned to being a dental receptionist , working for two of her sons. She retired to Marstons Mills in 1971. Mrs. Duffin was a former active member of Waterbury NAACR Eastern Star, Booklover's Club, the Artisans and various church auxiliaries. Her hobbies included ceramics, horticulture, sewing, crossword puzzles and reading. She was an avid basketball fan, especially of the UConn men's and women's teams and the Bos- ton Celtics. Her favorite player was Cedric "Cornbread" Maxwell. Survivors include three sons, James M. Lee Jr. of Bethlehem, Conn., Henry J. Lee of Marstons Mills and Bruce C. Lee of Naper- ville, 111.;"two brothers , Clarence E. Jeffress of West Barnstable and Walter J. Jeffres of Boston; five stepchildren; 11 grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. An Episcopalian service was held at John-Lawrence Funeral Home in Marstons Mills. John W. Gentile Sr, 78 Barnstable - John W Gentile Sr., 78, formerly of Medford , died Jan, 1, 2006, after a brief illness. He was the husband of Louise K. (Fortune) Gentile. Mr. Gentile was born in Boston. A retired master electrician, he worked for Raytheon Corp. for 50 years. He served in the Army during World War II as a ski patrol medic in Italy and Yugoslavia. After the war, he continued to serve in the Navy. In recent years, he was a mem- ber of the Coast Guard Auxiliary, Flotilla 11-6, out of Orleans. He was also a member of VFW Post 2578 of Hyannis and a volunteer with the Barnstable Police De- partment. Mr. Gentile loved sports and was a hockey referee for many years with the Massachusetts Hockey Association. He was also very active with senior softball on Cape Cod. Besides his wife, survivors include two children, Suzanne Theriault of Newburyport and John Gentile Jr. of Lowell; two stepchildren, Sandra McCoole of Marblehead and Paul Nocivelli Jr. of Holden; two sisters, Rosalie DeVita of Arlington and Helen DeMaggio of Hanover, N.H.; two brothers, Joseph J. Gentile of Centerville and Arthur Gentile of Woburn ; five grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. A funeral Mass was celebrated at St. Clement Church in Med- ford. Burial was in Oak Grove Cemetery there.. Madlyn J. Grade, 75 Hyannis - Madlyn J. (Otto) Grade, 75, died Jan. 1, 2006, after a short illness. She was the wife of Richard F. Grade for 56 years. Mrs. Grade was born in Esther- ville, Iowa and moved to the Cape during her senior year in high school. She was a 1948 graduate of Yarmouth High School. She worked for Baxter Trans- portation and retired from Sun Island Transportation. She was a member of the VFW Lady's Auxiliary Post 2578 of Hyannis. Besides her husband, survivors include a daughter, Sandra L. Marceau of South Dennis; a son, Richard D. Grade of Barnstable; a sister, Doris L. Logue of Moun- tain Lake, Minn.; three grandchil- dren; and a great-granddaughter. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Memorial donations may be made to Davenport Mugar Can- cer Center, 27 Park St., Hyannis, MA 02601. Marie R.E. Hamel, 89 Plymouth - Marie R.E. (Levesque) Hamel, 89. formerly of Centerville and Fall River, died Jan, 2, 2006, at Hathaway Manor Extended Care Facility, New Bed- ford, after a long illness. She was the wife of the late Alain Hamel. Mrs. Hamel was born in Fall River She was a supervisor in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Division of Employment. She liked socializing and going out to eat with her family. Survivors include a niece, Jeanne Bonneau of New Bed- ford; and four nephews, Roger Levesque of New Bedford , Ryan Levesque of Oklahoma and Jef- frey and Adam Levesque, both of Middleboro. She was the mother of the late David Hamel. A memorial service was held at Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish at St. James Church in New Bed- ford. Lois Hollie Hatmaker, 73 Hyannis - Lois Hollie (Wordell) Hatmaker, 73, died Dec. 30, 2005, at Cape Cod Hospital after a long illness. She was born in Taunton, ' raised in Hyannis and educated in Barnstable, where she gradu- ated from high school in 1950. She attended the Boston Uni- versity School of Music for two years and then transferred to the University of Michigan School of Music, where she graduated in 1954. She was a music teacher in Wayne, Mich., for two years and moved to Cape Cod in 1958. She loved teaching, computers, and knitting and crocheting for the Baby Center. Survivors include three sons, Wayne William of Plymouth, Dean Thomas of Pawtucket, R.I., and Bryan Keith Hatmaker of Duluth, Ga.; a sister, Joyce C. Abbey of Marstons Mills; and a grand- daughter. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice & Palliative Care of Cape Cod, 270 Communi- cation Way, Hyannis, MA 02601. Barbara Ann Holland, 73 Hyannis - Barbara Ann Hol- land, 73, died Dec. 31, 2005, in Hyannis after a brief illness. She was the wife of George J. Holland Jr. for 53 years. Mrs. Holland was born in Boston, raised in Dorchester and lived in Braintree for 39 years before moving to Cape Cod five years ago. After raising her family in Braintree she pursued a career in the mortgage field , working for the Federal Reserve Bank, Ded- ham Savings Bank and Quincy Savings Bank. Besides her husband, survivors include two sons, George J. Ill of Ft. Leavenworth, Kan., and Peter J. of Austin, Texas; a daughter, ( Patrice DeAngelo of Plymouth; a brother, Walter Ehrhardt of Brew- ster; and eight grandchildren. A funeral Mass was held at St. Francis Xavier Church in Hyannis. Memorial donations may be made to Catholic Charities, 1731 King St., Suite 200, Alexandria, VA 22314. Amelia Caroline Johnson Centerville - Amelia Caroline Johnson, infant daughter of Scott and Karen (Robinson) Johnson of Centerville, died Dec. 29, 2005. She was born Oct. 25, 2005. Besides her parents, survi- vors include her sister, Savan- nah Lynne Johnson; and her grandparents, Donald C. and Jacqueline D. (Poole) of South Yarmouth and Frank Robinson of Florida. A funeral Mass was celebrated at St. Pius X Church in South Yarmouth. Burial followed in Ancient Cem- ' etery. Sarkinen, 87 Hyannis - Ellen I. (Imberg) Sarkinen, 87, died Dec. 31, 2005, at the Cape Regency Nursing Home in Centerville after a long illness. She was the wife of the late Samuel M. Sarkinen. Mrs. Sarkinen was born , raised and educated in Hyannis. She was a homemaker for many years, and enjoyed gardening. Survivors include two daugh- ters, Sandra I. Gifford of Knox- ville, Tenn., and Carol E. McPher- son of Hyannis; a sister, Shirley Brady of Linwood, Pa.; and four grandchildren. Memorial donations may be made to the charity of one's choice. Priscilla Stimpson, 76 Intervale , N.H. - Priscilla Stimpson, 76, died Dec. 11, 2005, of cancer. She was the wife of the late Dick Stimpson. They were mar- ried in 1954. Mrs. Stimpson was born in Worcester, and her family later moved to Cape Cod. After high school graduation, she attended the Katherine Gibbs School in Boston. After her marriage, she and her husband ran the Intervale Ski Area during the winter months. In the summers they lived on the Cape, where she ran the tennis shop at the Hyannisport Club and her husband was the pro. She became a year-round resident of Hyannisport in 1969 and worked at the indoor tennis courts in Hyannis. In 1979, Mrs. Stimpson re- turned to Intervale , where she worked at the Mt. Cranmore Ten- nis Club and began a long career working in the school superin- tendent's office in North Conway. She retired in 1998. During her retirement she traveled often to Cape Cod to visit friends, and took trips to the United Kingdom and Ireland. Mrs. Stimpson was a mem- ber of the Healing with Friends breast cancer support group, and participated in a clinical study on primary pulmonary hypertension in 2000. She loved sailing and the ocean. Survivors include a daughter, Lisa, of Brooklyn, N.Y.; a son, Rich, of Intervale; a sister, Bunty, of Yarmouthport; a granddaugh- ter; and a niece and two nephews. A memorial gathering in Inter- vale and a graveside service in Yarmouthport will be held in May. Memorial donations may be made to Jen's Friends Cancer Foundation, PO. Sullivan, 71 Hyannis - Eugene F.Sullivan, 71, formerly of Trumbull, Conn., died Jan. 5,2006, at his home after along illness with multiple sclerosis. He was the husband of Clare M. Schofield Sullivan for 47 years. Mr. Sullivan was born in Milton and a 1956 graduate of Massa- chusetts Military Academy. He graduated from Northeastern University in 1958. He worked for the General Food Corp. for 40 years, begin- ning his career at Walter Baker Chocolate in Dorchester Lower Mills and retiring as regional sales manager in the Birds Eye Division in White Plains, N.Y.,in 1985. Besides his wife, survivors include five children , Michael Sullivan of Atlanta , Maureen Reim of Potomac , Md., Ellen Nyllis of Groton , Carol Donnelly of Trumbull, and Clare Freed of Apex, N.C.; a brother, Edward Sullivan of Canton; 12 grand- children; and many nieces and nephews. A funeral service was held at Christ the King Church in Trumbull. Burial was in Gate of Heaven Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to Pope John Paul II High School, 120 High School Road , Hyannis, MA 02601. George L. 'Buster' Washington, 82 Hyannis - George L. "Buster" Washington, 82, died Jan. 1, 2006, at his home. He was the husband of the late Ernestine (Lomba) Washington. Mr. Washington was born in West Hyannisport and raised in Hyannis, where he was a familiar face at Angelo's supermarket. He was sometimes nicknamed the "mayor of Hyannis." Survivors include many nieces and nephews; and his caregiver, Sharon DeJesus of Hyannis. A funeral Mass was celebrated at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Hyannis. Burial was in Oak Neck Cemetery, Hyannis. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice & Palliative Care of Cape Cod, 270 Communi- cation Way, Hyannis, MA 02601. Russell V. Washington Hyannisport - Russell V.Wash- ington died at his home Dec. 30, 2005, after a long illness with cancer. He was the husband of Patricia A. Washington for 47 years. Mr. Washington was bom and raised in Hyannisport . He enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren at his second home in Vermont. He was a meter technician for Keyspan for 36 years. Besides his wife, survivors in- clude his mother, Annie L. Lopes of Bass River; two sons, William J. Washington and Robert A. Washington Sr, both of Marstons Mills; a daughter, Cheryl A. Hoxie of Marstons Mills; and seven grandchildren. A funeral Mass was celebrated at Our Lady of Assumption in Osterville.
