Ethel Anna Bete, 100
Barnstable - Ethel Anna (Peter-
son) Bete, 100, died Dec. 24, 2005,
at her home.
She was the wife of Raymond
Tilden Bete, who died in 1969.
Mrs. Bete was born in Hyde
Park and raisedinStoughton. She
was the first in her family to at-
tend college, earning a bachelor's
degree from Bridgewater State
College in 1926. She was ateacher
for several years.
She was married to her child-
hood sweetheart (they met ex-
changingValentinesinfirst grade)
at the Little Church Around the
Corner in New York City in 1927.
She and her husband lived for
many years in Cumberland. Md.,
and then in Cuyahoga Falls.Ohio.
Their love ofNewEngland brought
them back each summer to Onset
Island and the Cape.
In 1966 they retired to "Pink
Shutters," their home on Barn-
stable Harbor.
Mrs. Bete was active in the
Garden Club andWomen'sClub of
Akron, Ohio and volunteered for
many years at the Cancer Society
Thrift Shop in Barnstable.
She was an accomplished still-
life and landscape painter, played
golf and the piano, spoke fluent
French and traveled the world
extensively.
Mrs. Bete loved all things Eng-
lish and Royal, was an active
gardener, and loved words and
her unabridged Oxford diction-
ary. She had an active, inquisitive
mind that valued knowledge and
education.
She worshipped faithfully and
was an active member of the
Episcopal church.
Survivors include a daughter,
Elizabeth Ann (Bete) Garnett of
Mashpee: a brother.Alfred Peter-
son of Florida; two grandchildren;
and five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by
two brothers, Edward and John
Peterson.
A funeral was held at St. Mary's
Episcopal Church in Barnstable,
followed by burial in Evergreen
Cemetery in Stoughton.

H. Shirley Clifford , 71
East Dennis -H.Shirley (Barter)
Clifford, 71, of East Dennis and
Lady Lake. Fla., died Dec. 25,
2005, at her daughter's home in
South Dennis.
She was the wife of the late
Edward F.Clifford, Jr.
Mrs. Clifford was born in Brain-
tree and raised in Hyannis. She
was a 1952 graduate of Barnstable
High School.
After marrying, she raised her
family in Dennis and Yarmouth.
She worked for Stap at Market
and Players Pharmacy in East
Dennis.
In 1992 she moved to Lady Lake,
where she worked for Blimpies
Market.
She was a member of Commu-
nity United Methodist Church of
Fruitland Park, Fla., and Faith
Assemblies of God Church of
Hyannis.
She enjoyed bowling, ceramics
and music and was known for
her subs.
Survivors include four children.
Barbara A. Benoit of East Dennis,
E. William "Billy" Clifford of West
Yarmouth, Louise S. Mclnnis of
South Dennis and BarryJ. Clifford
of South Yarmouth; a brother,
Russell Barter of Florida: four
grandchildren; a great-grandson:

Pine Grove Cemetery there.

David Hubert Dalton, 69
Hyannis -DavidHubert Dalton,
69, died Dec. 21, 2005, at his home
after a long illness with cancer.
He was the husband of Anne
Barbieri Dalton for 31 years. He
was also the husband of the late
Betsy Dalton, who died in 1972.
Mr.Dalton was born and raised
inPittsfield and was a 1954 gradu-
ate of Pittsfield High School.
He graduated from The Bentley
School of Finance in 1956. Upon
graduation, he became a travel-
ing auditor withGeneral Electric.
He worked for GE for 25 years,
advancing through management.
Although his career with GE took
him across the country,he always
enjoyed New England and vaca-
tioning on Cape Cod.
In the early '80s, he began
working as an independent man-
ufacturer'srepresentative. In the
early '90s, he and his wife moved
to the Cape, where they started
Mobil Mediserv, an insurance
exam company.
In2003,he soldthe companyand
was a marketing representative
for Hy-Line Cruises for the past
two years.
He had a great passion for the
Red Sox, which began at an early
age. He was also a regular volun-
teer with Special Olympics.
He was involved with many
church activities,includingserving
as lay minister and high school
catechism teacher along with
his wife.
Besides his wife, survivors in-
clude five children, Donna Jo
Kelley of Morrisville, Pa.. David
Allen Dalton of Danville, Calif.,
Andrea Marie Ianniello of Hyan-
nis, Andrew Anthony Ianniello of
YarmouthportandJosephVincent
IannielloofCumming,Ga.;asister,
Deborah Dalton Badger of North
Eastham; 12 grandchildren; three
great-grandchildren; and many
nieces and nephews.
A funeral Mass was celebrated
at St. Francis Xavier Church,
in Hyannis. Burial followed in
St. Francis Xavier Cemetery in
Centerville.

Joan T. Danahy, 79
West Yarmouth - Joan T (Wil-
liams) Danahy, 79, formerly of
Lynn, died unexpectedly Dec.
20. 2005, at Cape Cod Hospital
in Hyannis.
She was the wife of Christopher
Danahy. They were married 28
years.
Mrs. Danahy was born and
educated in Lynn and was a 1943
graduate of St. Mary's Girls High
School in Lynn.
She was an administrator with
the town of Barnstable 'sHighway
Department , retiring in 1986. She
was previously employed asaclerk
for J.W. Daly Inc.. a pharmaceuti-
cal company.
She enjoyed spending time in
her garden and caring for her
home. She also loved painting
and antiquing.
She and her husband enjoyed
traveling across the country by
train to California, vacationing
in Bermuda, and especially in
Ireland, on several occasions.
Besides her husband, survivors
includetwosons,RichardWilliams
of Salem and Mark Williams of
New Orleans, La.; a daughter,
Maura Cuhna of Punta Gorda,
Fla.; a brother, Stephen Buckley
of Peabody; three sisters, Mary
Brown of Yarmouth, Margaret
Scanlon of Lynn and Muriel Neal
of Naples, Fla.; five stepchildren,
CarolMcCormack ofBoxford,Wil-
liam Danahy of Saugus, Patricia
Cunningham of Windham, N.H.,
Robert Danahy of Melrose and
Stephen Danahy of Swampscott;
two grandchildren; 13stepgrand-
children; six stepgreat-grand-
children; and many nieces and
nephews.
She was also the stepmother of
the late Christopher Danahy Jr.
A funeral Mass was celebrated
at St. Mary's Church in Lynn.
John E. Densmore, 65
Appleton, Wis. - Jack E. "Jack"
Densmore, 65, died Dec. 20, 2005,
at his home.
He was the husband of Brenda
(Goff) Densmore for 21 years.
Mr.Densmore wasborn inPort-
land, Maine and lived in Hyannis
in the 1970s.
He began his career as a self-
employed heating and plumbing
contractor and was a member of
thePlumbersandPipefitters Local
276 of Brockton, and Local 51 of
Providence, R.I.
He worked in construction
management of power plants,
refineries and paper mills. Since
1996he had worked as aconstruc-
tion superintendentat AZCO,Inc.
in Appleton.
He was passionate about farm-
ing and raising cows and spent
hisfinal three years happily tend-
ing to his cows and building his
dream house.
Besides his wife, survivors in-
clude two sons, Anthony Dens-
moreofAppleton andJamesDens-
more ofEverett;adaughter,Debra
Kurseth of Seattle; a brother,
Matthew Densmore of Windham,
Maine; two sisters: Connie Dens-
more of Yarmouth, Maine, and
Marsha Densmore of Portland,
Maine; six grandchildren; three
great- grandchildren.
He was the step-father of the
late Kelly Hughes of Hyannis.
A memorial service was held
at Wichmann Funeral Home in
Appleton.

Mrs. Gordon was born and

ian for the city for many years.

Cape.
Survivors include two daugh-

stable and Donna L. Anastasia of
Roslindale; ason,Thomas W Gor-
don ofNewton;five grandchildren;
and two great-grandchildren.

Hyannis - Madlyn J. (Otto)
Grade,75,passed awayJan,1,2006,
after a short illness.
She was the wife of Richard F.
Grade for 56 years.
Born in Estherville, Iowa, she
moved to Cape Cod in her senior
yearand graduatedfromYarmouth
High School in 1948.
Mrs. Grade worked for Baxter
Transportation and retired from
Sun Island Transportation.
She was a member of the Ladies
Auxiliary of VFW Hyannis Post
2578.
Besides her husband, she is sur-
vived by her daughter Sandra L.
Marceau of South Dennis;her son
Richard D. Grade of Barnstable; a
sister, Doris L.Logue of Mountain
Lake, MN; three grandchildren
and one great-granddaughter; and
many nieces and nephews.

Harriet Jacobucci, 77
West Yarmouth - Harriet Jaco-
bucci, 77, died Dec. 22, 2005, at her
home after an illness.
She was the former wife of Joe
Cameron and the wife of the late
Louis Jacobucci , who died in
2000.
Mrs. Jacobucci wasborninPeek-
skill, N.Y., raised and educated in
Fairlawn,N.J.Shewasa 1946gradu-
ate of Fairlawn High School.
After graduating from high
school, she attended Elmira Col-
lege in N.Y, and then transferred
to ColumbiaPresbyterianSchoolof
Nursing inManhattan, N.Y, where
she graduated as a licensed nurse
practitioner.
At that time she married Mr.
Cameronandsettled inNewJersey,
where they raised their family. In
1964, they moved to Cummaquid.
Shelater went backto schooland
earned a bachelor's in social work
from Boston University's Metro-
politan Collegeandamaster'sinhu-
man services administration from
Antioch College in Cambridge.
In 1979 she married Louis Ja-
cobucci and lived in Hyannis and
West Yarmouth. She pioneered
and becamethe executivedirector
of Cape Cod Homemaker-Home
Health Aide Services. Shefounded
the Council for Home Health Aide
of Massachusetts, and chaired the
committee that wrote the stan-
dards for the new field of service.
She alsocreated thetrainingcourse
and standards for supervision,
which were adopted by the state
of Massachusetts.
Later, she reorganized the com-
pany under the name Visiting
Nurse'sAssociation ofUpper Cape
Cod.
In 1985 she became a social
worker for Cape Cod Hospital-Pa-
villion in Centerville and a nursing
home in Sandwich. She retired in
1993.
Sheloved to read and playbridge
and wasacat fanatic.She alsoloved
Tai Chi at the Yarmouth Senior
Center, where she was a member.
She volunteered with the Early
Alzheimer s Patients Group and
created a social club for family
members.
Shealsovolunteered asateacher
of English for Portuguese and
Puerto Rican adults and students
on the Cape.
Survivors include two sons,
Stephen C. Cameron of West Yar-
mouth and Chikur Cameron of
Bariboo, Wis.; three grandsons;
and a nephew.
A celebration of her life will be
at a later date.
Philip F. Mancini, 83
Hyannisport - Philip F.Mancini,
83,formerly of Milford,died Dec. 18,
2005, at Cape Cod Hospital after a
short illness.
He was the husband of An-
nette (Varricchione) Mancini for
60 years.
Mr.Manciniwas born inMilford.
He was a World War II Marine vet-
eran who participated inthe initial
military landing on Guam.
Alongwithhisfatherand brother,
Mr.Mancini was a home builder in
the Milford area. He later worked
with the two of them at Baystate
Cabinet Co. He was also a real
estate broker and owned Mancini
Motors in Milford.
The founder of the Phil Mancini
Orchestra, he was a singer, song-
writer and piano player.
Survivors include a daughter,
Donna Lauder of Hyannisport; a
brother,WilliamManciniof Hoped-
ale; and two grandchildren.
He was the father of the late Ro-
berta Mancini and the late Philip
Mancini, who died in September.
A funeral Mass was celebrated
at Sacred Heart of Jesus Church in
Milford. Burial followed in Sacred
Heart Cemetery.
Elizabeth Martin, 84
West Barnstable -Elizabeth (Da-
vis) Martin,84,formerly ofPocasset
and Andover, died Dec. 20. 2005, at
Royal Megansett NursingHome in
North Falmouth.
She was the wife of the late Jo-
seph W Martin.
Mrs. Mar-
tin was born
in Cambridge
and grew up
in Arlington.
She attended
Brimmer May
School , West-
brook Junior
College and
Jackson School
at Tufts Umversity.
She was a document analyst
for the IRS in Andover for many
years.
After retirement,shemoved from
Andover to Wenaumet Bluffs in
Pocasset. For the past five years,
she lived with her son in West
Barnstable.
Shewasanavidbridgeplayer and
attained the American Contract
Bridge League title of life master.
She also served as a director, run-
ning two large bridge games in
Falmouthfor the league.
Survivors include a daughter,
Cynthia Olive of Yarmouth;a son,
Arthur Olive of West Barnstable; a
brother,Chester Davisof Osterville
and Florida; and four grandchil-
dren. She also leaves many dear
friends.
A memorial service was held at
Chapman,Cole &Gleason Funeral
Home in WestFalmouth. A second
memorial service will be held in
the spring.

Barbara McGill, 72
Centerville - Barbara (Massen-
gale) McGill, 72, died Dec. 25,2005,
at Cape Cod Hospital in Hyannis.
She was the wife of the late
Thomas W McGill.
Mrs.McGillwasborn in Copper-
hill, Term., and moved to Hyannis
in 1963.
She was a homemaker and later
worked in the bakery at Shaw's
supermarket in Hyannis.
Survivors include a- daughter,
Kathy McGill of Centerville; four
sons, Thomas W McGill Jr., Tim
McGill and John Mark McGill, all
of Centerville, and Joe McGill of
Lawrenceville, Ga.; a sister, Mary
Ruth Chanceyof Cleveland, Term;
three brothers , Winston Mas-
sengale of Chatsworth, Ga., John
Massengale of Cleveland, Tenn,
and Edward Massengale of Mc-
Caysville, Ga.; six grandchildren;
and a great-granddaughter.
She was the mother of the late
Robert McGill.
A graveside service was held in
Mosswood Cemetery in Cotuit.

William F. Naughton , 93
Osterville - William Francis
Naughton, 93, died Dec. 17, 2005,
after a brief illness.
He was married to Rose Mary
"Chickie" (Duggan) Naughton for
66 years.
BorninDorchester,Mr.Naughton
later lived in Milton. He attended
the Boston Trade High School, the
LowellInstitute,andthe Massachu-
setts Institute of Technology.
During World War II, he worked
as a supervisor at the Hingham
Shipyard's electrical department.
Mr. Naughton owned and served
as president of Naughton, Ramey,
Ross Inc., an agency representing
hardwaremanufacturers.He served
as president of Yankee Hardware
and New England Hardware Asso-
ciates and as a director of Eastern
Hardware Associates.
He was a founder and past presi-
dent of the Milton Little League,
and a34-yearmember ofthe Oyster
Harbors Club, as well as the Wil-
derness Country Club of Naples,
Fla. He was also a communicant
of Our Lady of Assumption Church
in Osterville.
Besides his wife, he is survived
by two sons, William F. Naughton
Jr.ofNassau, Bahamas and Stowe,
Vt., and Robert J. Naughton of
Providence , R.I.; one daughter,
Brenda A. Johnson of Milton; five
grandchildren; and two great-
grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian burial was
celebrated at Our Lady of Assump-
tion Church in Osterville.
Philip A. Rollins, 70
Mashpee - Philip A. Rollins. 70,
died unexpectedly Dec. 25. 2005,
at Beverly Hospital.
He was toe husband of Priscilla
(Kingston) Rollins for 46 years.
Mr. Rollins was a graduate of
BrooklineHigh School.Dartmouth
Collegeand Boston College School
of Law.He earned ajuris doctorate
in 1960 and spent most ofhisprofes-
sional career in public service.
From 1960 to 1968, he was as-
sociate town counsel for the town
of Brookline.
After moving to the Cape in
1969, he was elected selectman in
Mashpee. He served as associate
town counsel in Falmouth from
1969 to 1971.
In 1970, he was elected district
attorney of the Southern District
ofMassachusetts,including Bristol,
Barnstable, Dukes and Nantucket
counties. In 1974,he supported leg-
islation creating a separate district
for the Cape and islands and was
elected its first district attorney.
He served for eight terms.
During his 32-year tenure, his
many accomplishments included
arranging for the first Massa-
chusetts State Police Detectives
Unit to be assigned to a district
attorney's office for investigative
purposes; the creation and imple-
mentation of the Victim/Witness
AssistanceProgramand the forma-
tion of the Cape Cod Drug Task
Force, which included local, state
and federal law enforcement agen-
cies workingtogether in a regional
approach to drug investigations.
He was instrumental in the for-
mation of Children's Cove: Cape
Cod and the Islands Child Advo-
cacy Program, a multidisciplinary
agency working with the victims of
child sexual abuse and their non-
offending family members.
He was one of the first in the state
to become a full-time prosecutor,
to hire female prosecutors and to
form a domestic violence unit and
an elder abuse unit.
Seventeen of his former employ-
ees have become state judges.
Since retiringin 2002,Mr.Rollins
practiced law in Mashpee.
Besideshiswife,survivorsinclude
a son, Philip A. Rollins Jr., of Dum-
merston, Vt.; a daughter, Priscilla
R. "Sam" Davis of Ipswich; and
seven granddaughters.
He was also the father of the late
Alison Rollins.
A funeral was held at St. Barn-
abas Memorial Church in Fal-
mouth.

Bruce J. Turgeon, 67
West Barnstable - Bruce J. Tur-
geon,67,died Dec. 19,2005,at Pleas-
ant Bay Nursing and Rehabilitation
Center in Brewster.
He was the husband of Pam
Chase. He was also the husband
of Charlotte Turgeon, who died
last year.
Mr.Turgeon was born and raised
