Time change on anti-
bullying session
A presentation by the Massa-
chusetts Aggression Reduction
Center at Bridgewater State
College on its anti-bullying
program will be held Jan. 10 at 6
p.m. in the Knight Lecture Hall
at Barnstable High School. Par-
ents of middle school and high
school students are invited to
attend this session, which was
previously schedule to start at
6:30 p.m.
Artful awards
From supporting first grader 's
field trips to the zoos inNewBed-
ford or Providence to helping to
create a professional art gallery
in the main lobby at Barnstable
High School, the Enoch T. Cobb
Trust has made another round of
classroom enrichment grants.
Trustee David B. Cole gave the
school committee an update on
the activities of the Trust Tues-
day, detailing $36,250 in grants
for this school year and noting
that more awards may be made
before its end.
Cole shared letters of ap-
preciation he 's received from
students, including those from
two Hyannis East Elementary
third graders who'd been to the
Museum of Fine Arts in Boston
and disagreed strongly about
the merit of Jackson Pollock's
work.
Scholarship fund reaches
$100,000
The Jason A. Fedele Cape &Is-
lands Memorial Scholarship has
awarded $100,000 in scholarships
to Cape and Islands students.
Among this year'sseven winners
were Barnstable High School's
Ashlee McGuire , who is going to
Quinnipiac College and Allison
Cobb, who is going to the Uni-
versity of New Hampshire.
Donations to the fund may be
sent to 141 Winding Cove Road ,

Entrance exam for Sacred
Heart
Sacred Heart High School will
hold an entrance examination
for grades 7 to 12 tomorrow at

Garden Club has
scholarship
The Garden Club of Hyannis
is offering scholarships for the
Class of 2006 in the amount of
$1,000 to BarnstableHigh School
and $1,000 to Cape Cod Regional
Technical High School.
Eligible students are those
planning a career in horticul-
ture, landscape design, forestry,
conservation , environmental
science, or related fields.
Guidance departments at
both schools have applications ,
which must be submitted by
March 24.

For 22 years, Falmouth Acad-
emy freshmen have been sepa-
rated into Athenians and Spar-
tans and debated the merits of
each ancient nation-state.

WIC (Women , Infants and

is a program for pregnant
women , nursing mothers and
children under the age of 5
that disburses food vouchers
for use at the supermarket.
The school breakfast and
lunch program (781-338-
3000) is another alternative
for providing children with
nutritious meals during the
week.
Food stamps (508-862-
6600) are also an option
and qualification for them
is not as difficult as may
be believed. In fact , work-
ing people and homeowners
qualify. The "stamps " no lon-
ger come in coupon form and
are issued as credit cards for
discretion and privacy.

For those simply trying
to cut corners , Serve New
England (888-742-7363 ) has a
generous program that ben-
efits everyone. If you do two
hours of volunteer work each
month , e.g., drive an invalid
to the hospital for treatment ,
baby sit , assist with yard
work , etc., you can purchase
food packages at a discount.
For $19 a month you can
qualify for a family meal plan
that includes meats, veg-
etables, fruits and starches
or you can purchase a meat-
only package for just $12.
Holiday food baskets , which
include an 8- to 10-pound
turkey and all the fixings , are
also available at reasonable
prices

Security Insurance , Medic-
aid/MassHealth , veterans
benefits , or fuel assistance ,
you may be eligible for dis-
counted rates on your util-
ity bills , as well as a Verizon
telephone discount of $13.85
a month.
Year closes on flat note...

However, don't be fooled by the
decrease... 2005 follows (in order)
2003. 2002 , 1998. 2004, 1986 and
1999.as one of the busiest years
ever in the 300 year history.
For transactions between
$25,000 and $1million the volume
of real estate for 2005 compared
to 2004 was down 9.3 percent.
The total value of saleswas down
4.4 percent from the previous
year. The average individual
property sales value was up 5.4
percent from the previous year.
Mortgage activity dropped 11.3
percent from last year's levels.

Bradley groups buys Hyport
The former location of Hyan-
nisport Brewing Company at
720 Main St., Hyannis has been
purchased by developer Robert
Bradley and partners. Bradley
is planning to build a mixed-use
development at the comer of Main
and Ocean streets.
The sale for $975,000 was han-
dled exclusively by John E. Ciluzzi
of Commercial Realty Advisors in
Centerville.
Cape Cod Beer, which shared
space with the former restaurant ,
plans to reopen on Phinney 's
Lane.

corporation receives grant
The Lower Cape Cod Commu-
nity Development Corporation

awarded a $50,000 Rural Business
Enterprise Grant yesterday. The
funds are earmarked for devel-
opment of a computer software

central online platform to which
75 individual business will be able
to connect.

Paul White of Paul White Wood-

comes Florence Sauerbrey to
