HAY RIDE
During the holiday vacation sev-
eral young people attended a hay-
rlde through the neighboring vil-
lages. After the ride rerreshments
were served and there was dancing
at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Ralph
J. Shea.

on Tuesday night.
ENGAGMENT ANNOUNCED
The engagement of Miss Marlon
F. Waller to Lieut. John F. Oalde ,
son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Cialde
of Brooklyn , N. Y., has been an-
nounced by her parents , Mr. and
Mrs. John H. Waller , who former-
ly lived In West Barnstable , but
now muke their home on Seapult
Road here.
Miss Waller was graduated from
Barnstable High School in 1943
and two years later from Becker
Junior College , where she took the
medical secretarial course and
was awarded an A.S degree. At
present she Is employed as secre-
tary to Col. William M. Tow , Com-
manding Officer at Camp'Edwards.
Lieut. Claide attended Bishop
Loughlln Memorial High School
from which he was graduated In
June 1943. Prior to his entry into
the armed services In 1944 , he at-
tended the Radio Maritime Trades
Center in New York. During his
service he attended the University
of Hawaii , while stationed in Hon-
olulu. Now stationed at Camp Ed-
wards, where he is assistant post-
master. He received his commis-
sion last February upon his gradu-
ation from the Army Officers Can-
didate School at Fort Riley, Kan.
MANUEL C. SOARES
Manuel C. Soares, 59, died sud-
denly a week ago at hiB home on
Osterville and West Barnstable
Road. A native of St. Michael ,
Azores, he lived in this country
41 years, and resided 21 years in
Osterville, and was employed for
20 years as gardner on the Wian-
no estate of Dr. Fritz B. Talbot.
He was a communicant of Our
Lady of the Assumption Church.
Survivors are his widow , Mrs.
Isabel ( Rogers ) Soares; two daugh-
ters, Mrs. Mannuel Sonza and Mrs.
John Donald, Jr., and two sons,
Clayton and Edward , all of OBter-
ville; two sisters In the Azores,
and nine grandchildren.
COMMITTEE CHAIRMAN
The Rev. Peter Patches was
elected chairman of the Hospital
Committee of the Cape Cod Cleri-
cal Club , replacing the Rev. Wil-
I lard A. Page of W est Dennis, who
¦ resigned at the monthly meeting
of the Club on Monday in the West
Dennis Community Church. Guest
speaker was the Rev. Corey B.
Klinetob of Osterville , u retired
minister , who came to the Cape
from Pennsylvania. Rev. Mr. Kline-
tob took as his subject , "Religion
in the Home." At present he Is
supplying the pulpit as interim pus-
tor in the Osterville Baptist
Church.

Wednesday, Woman's Alliance
luncheon meeting was held in the
parish house of the Community
Church with Mrs. Peter Patches
in ehurge or devotions; Mrs. Cecil
Cioodspeed in charge of the busi-
